If you’re a public servant working in a leadership role in government across Canada, you’ve likely sat in a meeting, attended a presentation, or read a briefing note about “digital transformation.” There’s a lot of buzz and jargon surrounding this work, but there’s little consensus.

To cut through the noise and confusion around digital transformation, we conducted interviews with senior managers and director-level public servants in British Columbia and Ontario to ask about their lived experience. These conversations generated new insights, strong opinions, and powerful metaphors.
